Have A Plan
As I look at America crumbling it makes me cringe. America is not being destroyed by earthquakes, floods, and tornadoes, but by its very own people.
It’s not hard to see why. With the narcissistic society we created its all about me, me, me. You have to sell yourself, take care of yourself, reward yourself, make yourself feel good. Me, me, me. You’re your own number one priority so you should take care of yourself first.
Let’s say you’re a CEO of a Fortune 500 company, go for the quick money, forget growing a strong company, there’s easy money out there and you can have it if you’re willing to build on a shaky foundation. Don’t and the competition will and then where will you be? In front of an angry board explaining why you’re not expanding at a comparable rate.
Except there’s a little flaw in the whole system. Obviously a narcissistic society is a flaw in itself, but within the idea of taking care of yourself first there is a flaw in the logic.
If you are taking care of yourself first, you should have no unexpected problems. Things still happen, that’s life, but when you plan for yourself you won’t have many unexpected financial problems and if you do you can handle them more easily. Except people have plenty of problems.
That’s the problem. It’s not just narcissism, it’s the superficiality of it. Rather than take care of yourself by saving your money, selecting your partners, regulating your diet, it’s spend your money and then some, be promiscuous, be reckless and most importantly follow the trends.
If you want to put yourself first, by all means go ahead, but put yourself first successfully. Actually having a long term plan is truly putting yourself first. Alas, many Americans do not and the same can be said for the nation as a whole.
